We Set a Date!

I'll be interviewed here

I'll be interviewed here

The FOX56 Morning Edition news program has an opening in their schedule on May 7th.  Although they could have chosen to feature the grandmother who fended off burglars with her cane or the cheerleading squad who came in second in the state competition, they chose me instead!  Sorry cheerleaders, maybe next week.

I’m not sure when the interview will air, but I will definitely request a copy and let you all see me in action.  Usually they sit in director’s chairs, I wonder if they’ll let me sit on the toilet instead?

At this point, I have signings firmed up for June 7th at Joseph-Beth and another tentatively set for May 24th at the Anderson County Library to promote my book and to benefit the Anderson Humane Society.  That date is subject to change since it’s Memorial Day weekend.

In the News

This just in to our newsroom...

This just in to our newsroom...

Today’s Anderson News features stories about more than just the economic downturn and local traffic stops.  This week, they finally deal with the real news of our day, the release of Briefs for the Reading RoomI sent out press releases to all of the local papers and so far I believe this is the only article that has been run about the book, but I’m hopeful that I will garner the attention of either the Louisville or the Lexington paper if I’m persistent.  I also now have a date for my book signing at Joseph-Beth, it’s going to be June 7th from 2-4PM so mark those calendars!

Workin’ It

Part of my work as a freelance author is writing for a dog magazine.  One of my articles included a couple of pets from the Anderson Humane Society.  I contacted them and they have agreed to have a fund raising day at the local library where I will sell my book and give a portion of the proceeds to the Humane Society.  I don’t have a date yet, but I’m hoping we can set it up fairly quickly.  I am also exploring the possibility of making it into a local author’s day where I’m not the only show in town.   I think this might help get more people out by word of mouth and make it a bigger event.  I’ll let you know how it goes!  In addition to my local author’s day in June at Joseph-Beth, I’m starting to get some nibbles on some promotional opportunities.

Project Wonderful

The banner ad for Briefs

The banner ad for Briefs

I’ve decided to start doing some advertizing.  My first banner ad is being currently run through Project Wonderful, on the website Notebook in Hand.  I chose this starting point because the folks at Notebook in Hand have been very  helpful throughout the process of getting Briefs published and I value their input on the ad itself.  They’ve already given me some helpful advice which I’ve put into this second generation of the banner ad.

I’ve also re-arranged this web page a bit so you get the page about Briefs when you first arrive and then can click on the blog from there.  I think that will be better than just dumping you into the middle of the blog without some explanation.

Proof Positive…

I have proof!  Here is a candid and completely unposed picture of me discovering my book at the Joseph-Beth bookstore.  Strangely enough, they had neglected to turn it towards the front but we quickly remedied this obvious oversight.  In case you’re heading over to try to find it, it’s in the Humor section.  Hopefully I will be able to report a book signing soon, I’ll keep you posted!

Going for Broke

Today, the Barnes and Noble site finally has the details of Briefs for the Reading Room including the cover and a description.  Meanwhile, I’m submitting the book to their Small Publishers department to hopefully be carried nationwide, or at least regionally.  I did talk to the manager at the Lexington store today and he is going to stock it.  I still have this idea of trying to sell “Briefs” through local shops (shops other than bookstores) as well so I’ll let you know how that goes.

I’ve also spent quite a bit of time today adding to this web site.  I’ve added a link for buying Briefs which summarizes the places it can be found and includes links, and I’ve updated some of the other pages as well.   One additional local bookstore will be stocking my book, it is the Morris Book Store in Lexington.

As seen on TV

Good news!  I’ve been accepted for an interview on the Fox56 Morning Edition to promote Briefs.  I am waiting to hear back from them to schedule the date.  Rest assured, I’ll keep you informed of when to watch!  Briefs is now available on the Joseph-Beth site and has been picked up by Carmichael’s in Louisville.  I’m trying to schedule a book signing tour to announce during the TV interview.  So far I’ve run into a bit of a wall in trying to set up book signing events, hopefully I’ll have some positive news to report soon.

Now on the shelves…

Yesterday I got word that Briefs for the Reading Room will be carried in the fancy bookstore (Joseph-Beth) in Lexington.  Although it’s been on Amazon for awhile now, I haven’t really been able to do any book signings or in-person promotion until I could convince a bricks and mortar bookstore to carry the book.  Hopefully this will be the push it needs to sell a few copies and I can move it into some additional bookstores.  I can’t wait to go in and see it sitting there on the shelf!
